Humber Polytechnic

Biomedical Science Labs

Humber Polytechnic undertook a strategic renovation to transform existing classroom spaces into specialized biomedical laboratories supporting its expanding health science programs. The project was designed to deliver modern, hands-on learning environments that align with the institution’s focus on applied research and advanced laboratory education.

mottLAB worked closely with the project team to design and deliver flexible, high-performance laboratory environments tailored to academic use. The integration of fixed and mobile casework, specialized fume hoods, and adaptable benching systems ensures the spaces can evolve with changing curriculum needs while maintaining durability and safety.

Custom Sigma Flex™ bench systems with integrated 6” service cores provide efficient utility distribution while maximizing usable workspace. High-performance materials — including stainless steel and phenolic resin — were selected to meet the rigorous demands of biomedical lab environments, offering long-term durability, chemical resistance, and ease of maintenance.

The result is a series of modern, adaptable teaching labs that support Humber’s commitment to innovation and hands-on scientific education.
